Out-of-Hours Provision

What should I do if I think my pet has an emergency?

At Priory Vets, we want to make sure you always know where to turn if your pet needs veterinary care outside our normal opening hours.

If you are worried that your pet is seriously unwell or has had an accident, please call us rather than waiting until we reopen.

Examples of emergencies include but not limited to:

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Collapse or severe weakness

  • Significant bleeding

  • Serious injury or trauma

  • Suspected poisoning

  • Seizures

  • Severe or uncontrolled pain

  • Difficulty giving birth

  • Repeated vomiting or diarrhoea with significant illness

  • A sudden deterioration in a pet with an existing condition

If you are unsure whether your pet's problem is an emergency, please call us for advice. It is always better to seek advice if you are concerned.

Please call the practice on our usual number, 01952 977757. When the practice is closed outside our normal working hours, you will be diverted to the out-of-hours vet.

Every six weeks, from 6 pm on Friday to 9 am on Monday,

our practice will take a short, planned break and will be closed to clients and their pets for routine treatments.

The Animal Trust, Shrewsbury will cover our out-of-hours.

During these times, calling our usual number will divert your call directly to Animal Trust Shrewsbury, who will look after our clients whilst we are away.

We’ll always post this planned break on our Facebook page a few days before the date.

On very rare occasions, for family events, this may also be the case. This won’t be posted on Facebook, but if your call is directed to Shrewsbury Animal Trust, that’s why.

Outside these planned times, Trevor will continue to provide our usual out-of-hours cover. Even vets need a little R&R, and this helps us keep our care at its best.

Thank you for your understanding and support!
